Previous workshops
BASE organises digital workshops 4 – 6 times per year. Everyone within the centre is invited, and these are generally also open to the public both nationally and internationally. You can find information about the upcoming events here on our website, under “News”, or by registering to our email list (contact Therese Eriksson). The topics for the workshops can be anything within the battery field, either more detailed and research oriented, more general or relating to one of our cross-cutting activities. We have speakers both from within the centre and also internationally invited speakers. Information about previous workshops can be found below. If you have suggestions on which topic we should organize the next workshop on, don’t hesitate to contact us.
Workshops 2022
2022-11-28 Raw materials for batteries
This time the topic was raw materials for batteries. The around 70 registered people had an opportunity to hear about lithium production in Chile from our international speaker Emilio E. Bunel from Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. We also got to hear from our BASE partner Talga, and our possible future partner Luleå University of Technology.
This was the agenda:
13:15 – 13:30Welcome address - Kristina Edström, Uppsala University
13:30 – 14:00 Raw materials for batteries: Challenges vs. opportunities - Saeed Chehreh Chelgani, Luleå University of Technology
14:00 – 14:30 Graphite from mine to anode - Anna Motta,Talga
14:30 – 14:45 Break
14:45 – 15:30 Is lithium production in Chile sustainable? - Emilio E. Bunel, Pontifical Catholic University of Chile
15:30 – 16:00 General questions and discussion
2022-09-19: AI and digitalization within the battery area
During this workshop that around 60 people registered for we got to hear a great talk by our invited speaker Prof. Alejandro Franco from Université de Picardie Jules Verne about his recent work on "Battery Manufacturing Optimization Through Digitalization and the Metaverse". We also got an update on the work done by a PhD student working at our BASE partner Nortical, Kasper Westman.
This was the agenda:
14:15 - 14:25 Welcome address by Kristina Edström
14:25 - 15:25 Battery Manufacturing Optimization Through Digitalization and
the Metaverse - Alejandro Franco, UPJV

15:45 - 16:05 Robust, high-information density data formats for battery state-of-health forecasting and transparent value chains - Kasper Westman, Nortical
16:05 - 16:15 General questions and closing remark
2022-05-31: Publishing and patenting in the battery area
The around 70 people that registered got to hear from our academic partners about standardization and what we publish in the battery area, and from our industrial partners about their view on patenting, and had a great discussion about battery literature.
This was the agenda:
09:15 - 09:45 Welcome address - Kristina Edström, Uppsala University
09:45 - 10:15 How, Where and Why Do and Should We Publish?
- Patrik Johansson, Chalmers University of Technology
10:15 - 10:40 Discussion on Publication in Break-out Rooms
10:40 - 10:50 Coffee break
10:50 - 11:10 Patenting in the battery industry - Björn Mårlid, Saft AB
11:10 - 11:30 Protecting Intellectual Property in Software Development
- Ed Fontes, Comsol
11:30 - 12:00 Discussion on Patenting in Break-out Rooms
2022-03-17 Batteries: Risks, Toxicology and Chemical Exposure
This topic enticed almost 120 people to register. This workshop focused on different toxicological aspects surrounding batteries, e.g. what to think about during battery manufacturing and dangers in the event of an accident.
This was the agenda:
14:30 – 14:40 Welcome address
14:40 – 15:20 Chemical agents in battery production - exposure and risk. Exposure monitoring and medical surveillance program - Håkan Westberg and Louise Fornander, Department of Occupational and Environmental Medicine Örebro University Hospital
15:20 – 15:50 Handling chemical risks - Tuulia Svanehav, Northvolt
15:50 – 16:20 A poison centre perspective on hydrofluoric acid/HF
- exposures: neglected differences between different types of exposures?
- Erik Lindeman, Swedish Poisons Information Centre
16:20 – 16:40 A method for evaluation of toxicology in a LCA perspective
